REOPENING!
We are delighted to announce that following the overwhelming support for our survival appeal, we will be reopening our doors on Saturday 8th August 2020! All tickets must be booked in advance and are on sale now! This post details our reopening following the 2020 lockdown. Today, in 2022, we are open 7 days a week.
Book Your Visit.
The last four months have been incredibly challenging for all of us and as an organisation we have faced a severely uncertain future. With our doors closed and all income generated via admissions, complete closure before the end of the year was a very real prospect. The response to our survival appeal has been utterly inspiring and we have been blown away by the generosity and support from all our donors across the globe. You have enabled us to survive and you all play a very special role in Austen history. Thank you.
In order to welcome you back safely, numbers will be significantly limited on site as well as in the House itself and all tickets must be booked in advance via the website. We will be open Thursday – Sunday (and August Bank Holiday Monday) and will be releasing new tickets every month. There will be one timed entry slot an hour between 10.30am and 3.30pm. Usual ticket concessions will apply and we are delighted to introduce a new concession for NHS workers. Whilst it will be a different experience, it will be a far more intimate one. Those seeking even more of a unique experience will be able to purchase, for the very first time, a special ticket which provides exclusive access to the House (for up to 15 people) for one hour. To book exclusive access, please email enquiries@janeaustens.house with the subject ‘exclusive access’ or call 01420 83262.
As well as being the first to view new objects on display, visitors will be treated to a new, multi-sensory experience, using scent and sound to bring the House to life. In a bold new imagining of the House, visitors will step back in time to 1816 to experience aspects of the Austens’ daily life – including Jane’s early morning piano practice and a leisurely family breakfast.
As well as timed tickets and limited numbers, we have put a range of measures in place to ensure that you can visit in safety and comfort. These include an enhanced one-way system, a 2 metre social distancing policy, hand sanitiser stations, thorough and frequent cleaning procedures, personal protective equipment for staff and contactless payment in the gift shop. You are also required to wear face coverings during your visit. We have been given the Visit England Good to Go seal of approval and will continue to monitor guidance from the government and Public Health England to ensure your safety.
The whole team at Jane Austen’s House are so excited to open our doors and welcome you back on 8th August! Please do remember that all tickets must be pre-booked. See you soon!
