Journaling with Jane Day 7: Celebration

Welcome to Day 7 of Journaling with Jane Today (Saturday 18th July) is the anniversary of Jane Austen's death. After six days of taking prompts from her glorious novels, the only possible theme for today is celebration!

Just over two centuries had passed since Jane died, and in that time her work, of which she was so justly proud, has been read and loved by millions. The six novels which we have explored this week have brought comfort, joy and solace.  More than this they were innovative and revolutionary, and remain masterpieces of wit and storytelling.

So today we celebrate Jane Austen in all her brilliance, and turn to look as well at what we have to celebrate.

If you would like here are some further prompts:

  • What would you like to celebrate today?
  • What brought you to Jane Austen?
  • What brings you joy?
  • What is your favourite way to celebrate?

For us at JAH, Jane Austen was simply one of the greatest writers that ever lived, and a true woman of genius. “Genius” was a very interesting concept during the regency period.

For a further Romantic-era prompt, inspired by our celebration of Jane, we suggest:

  • What makes someone a genius?
  • Can genius be a burden?
