Message from the Trustees
It is with mixed feelings that we announce the forthcoming departure of Mary Guyatt who has been Curator and more recently Director of Jane Austen’s House Museum since 2013.While sad to see her leave, we are delighted that her skills have been recognised in her appointment to the prestigious and high-profile London-based post of Heritage and Collections Lead on the Restoration and Renewal Programme at the Houses of Parliament. She leaves us to take up her new position on 13 December 2019 and does so with our best wishes for her continued success.
The Museum’s trustees have been working hard to develop and strengthen the organisation, and as part of this appointed Mary as the Museum’s first full time, professional Curator in its 70 year history. We owe her a huge debt of gratitude for the way in which she has led and developed the organisation. During her tenure, she has overseen significant increases in the number of visitors coupled with imaginative and acclaimed programmes to celebrate the bicentenaries of Austen’s great novels. As we move forward, Mary leaves the organisation in a strong position with very talented staff and a large number of highly committed volunteers.
We are confident that we shall make a strong appointment in her replacement who will lead the continued development of Jane Austen’s House, the most treasured Austen site in the world.
