5. A Fashion plate and The Penny Magazine

Cassandra’s drawing of a lady in a historical costume copies a print that was part of a series of loose historical fashion plates published in 1832 – and which is reproduced below.  Cassandra gave her drawing to a nephew or niece in the family of brother Charles.

This pencil drawing copies an image with the identical caption that featured in The Penny Magazine of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, a popular illustrated paper that was published weekly from March 1832 to October 1845.  The relevant issue of the magazine can be seen below. Cassandra gave her drawing to a nephew or niece in the family of brother Charles.

The engraving “Luring the Hawk” which Cassandra copied featured in this issue (number 164) of The Penny Magazine, dated 25 October 1834.
