The Mystery Pitch

Austen dedicated her playlet ‘The Mystery’ to her father with the words. ‘I humbly solicit your Patronage to the following Comedy, which tho’ an unfinished one, is I flatter myself as complete a Mystery as any of its kind.’ Just how complete soon becomes obvious – the whispering cast of characters seem to understand each other but how, and why, and what are they talking about? We have no idea.

Zoe Moore and Rachel Barnwell make a clever link to modern business pitches and the notion that something can come out of nothing, if only enough willing investors and celebs get behind it. Here is their comically hapless, but ultimately effective, pitch to stage ‘The Mystery’ in the West End.
