Announcing our Winter events programme
As the nights draw in and the lanes around Chawton are filled with crisp autumn colours, we are looking forward to winter – a slowing down after the summer rush, cosy bookclubs and magical candlelit evenings.
In particular, we’re busy planning our winter celebrations for Jane Austen’s birthday on 16 December. Join us for a very special House Tour on the morning of Jane’s birthday, and get an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes as Jane Austenās House wakes up for the day.
In the evening we’ll be celebrating with our annual Virtual Birthday Party. This fun event has quickly become a much-loved tradition, with guests joining from all over the world to hear from special guests, enjoy music, games and readings, and to raise a glass to our favourite authoress!
This year the party will be headlined by Professor John Mullan, who will kick off our celebrations in fine style. We’ll also be joined by Dr Serena Dyer and our Reimagine Resident Jordan Mitchell-King, with other special guests to be announced!
We’re keeping the celebrations going throughout December with a special Christmas Late – join us for an exclusive candlelit house tour, followed by mulled wine and mince pies, and a Christmas Village Walk – grab your wellies and join us for a delightful literary ramble, following in Jane’s footsteps.

Online, we’ll be celebrating with a Christmas special of our popular Virtual Tour – including festive readings and stories, Georgian Christmas traditions and much frivolity.
In January of course it’s all about Pride and Prejudice Day on 28 January. We’ve got lots planned, from a special P&P themed Virtual Tour to a wonderful Candlelit House Tour featuring live piano music performed by our spring Reimagine Resident Laura Klein.
