VolunteeringBecome a Volunteer at Jane Austen's House!
Always ready with a welcoming smile and the answer to a question, our volunteers are at the heart of creating the warm and homely atmosphere of Jane Austen’s House.
Our team of devoted volunteers support activities across the site, from greeting visitors and sharing fascinating stories to conservation cleaning and helping at events.
We have a number of exciting volunteer opportunities to get involved in, please click on the below roles to find out more!
How to get started?
Firstly, have a read about each role and see what you feel best suits your skills and interests.
Complete the Volunteer Application Form and return it to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll be in contact to invite you to our next New Volunteer Open Session.
After that we will plan in time for training and orientation!
Do I have to volunteer every week?
No. You can volunteer as much time as your circumstances allow. Some roles require a bit more time, and on a regular basis than others. Each role description will give more precise details.
Do I have to wear uniform?
No. We ask our volunteers and staff wear comfortable, smart clothes and a Jane Austen’s House lanyard and name badge.
What benefits are there to volunteering?
Experience: We support our volunteers to get involved in many different areas of the museum operation. For many people this hands-on experience in the museum industry is invaluable.
Social: We run social events throughout the year, so you’ll get to meet lots of new people and make new friends.
Interest: Share your passion for Jane Austen, history, and the Regency period with people from across the globe.
Training: We offer all our volunteers training and support from our experienced staff.
Discounts: Once you’ve completed training, volunteers also get 20% discount in the Gift Shop.
