Garden readings

We're delighted to launch a series of audio recordings from Jane Austen's novels, for visitors to enjoy.

To celebrate the beginning of spring, we have created a series of readings from Jane Austen’s novels for visitors to enjoy. Sit in the garden at Jane Austen’s House (or wherever you like!), put on your headphones and enjoy a short visit to Pemberley, Donwell, Barton or Uppercross… some of the iconic houses that Jane Austen created or refined here in Chawton.

Visitors to Jane Austen’s House can relax on a bench and enjoy the beautiful cottage garden after their visit. Now, on each bench they’ll find a panel with a short quote from one of the novels and a QR code that will take them to an audio recording of that extract – be it from Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma or Persuasion.

These atmospheric readings have been recorded especially for the House by Olivia Mace, Sophie Reynolds and Tom Andrews.
