New Reimagine Resident: Ben Mills

We're excited to launch our fifth Reimagine Resident! Ben Mills is a local writer and director. He will be creating an immersive audio installation in the House, inspired by the relationship between Jane and her sister Cassandra.

A proud and lifelong Basingstoker, Ben is a writer and director who has worked with organisations including the National Theatre, Young Vic, Royal Opera House, Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Salisbury Playhouse and Proteus Theatre. His work in film has played at Channel 4 HQ, the Olympic Park and on BBC Big Screens around the country.

Ben is passionate about telling stories in unexpected places, developing projects drawing from research into places and the people who inhabit them. He creates work that uses sound & spoken text, including audio trails and immersive experiences.

About the project:

Ben is creating an audio installation inspired by the relationship between Jane and her sister Cassandra, and the collection of letters between the pair which give us a fascinating insight into their life. Drawing on these and other Austen texts, he is exploring what we know of their time in the house, and how Jane’s legacy has evolved and been reinterpreted in the years since.

August update: Ben’s audio installation is now on display at the House until 24 September. Listen onsite or online. Find out more!
