Pride & Prejudice is one of the world’s most popular and beloved novels. First published on 28 January 1813, exactly 211 years ago, it continues to delight readers around the world and to inspire countless adaptations, translations and spin-offs.
Our annual celebrations for Pride & Prejudice Day bring a welcome cheer to the depths of January, and give us all a welcome opportunity to celebrate our favourite lines, moments and characters!
This year the House will be open so visitors can enjoy our exhibition The Making of Pride & Prejudice, as well as a number of special events. If you can’t make it in person, you can enjoy the exhibition online or join our special Pride & Prejudice Virtual Tour – allowing Jane Austen fans across the world to join in too!

Waking Up the House: Pride & Prejudice Special (9am)
Join us for a Pride and Prejudice version of this special tour and get an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes as Jane Austen’s House wakes up for the day.
Book Club Live: Pride & Prejudice (12pm)
Join us onsite for a Pride and Prejudice edition of our popular Book Club! We’ll get the ball rolling with questions, ideas and provocations, and then it’s over to you – as a group we’ll share thoughts, theories, favourites and best-bits.
Talk: the Making of Pride & Prejudice (4pm)
This Pride and Prejudice Day, join Jane Austen’s House Director, Lizzie Dunford, for a fascinating talk on the making of Pride and Prejudice, illustrated with objects from our collection.
Virtual Pride & Prejudice Tour (6.30pm)
Join us for a very special virtual guided tour of Jane Austen’s House, using the House itself and objects from the collection to reveal the themes, characters and events of Jane Austen’s beloved novel.
