Finally, we have the 2011 graphic novel illustrated by Robert Deas and published by SelfMadeHero. Like Marvel’s 2009 edition, the story is in a comic book format. Deas is an award-winning UK comic book artist and has also illustrated for the comic ‘Manga Shakespeare: Macbeth’.

We are really stepping into the twenty-first century with this edition, as the medium Deas uses is entirely digital. Deas uses both Sketchbook Pro and Adobe Photoshop to draw and colour his illustrations. In Deas’ interpretation of the letter scene, he highlights the focus on both Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, leaving the background as a simple blue sky and blurred shrubbery.

If we take a closer look at the necklace dangling from Elizabeth’s neck in this scene it appears to be a pendant in the shape of a cross , very similar to the topaz crosses belonging to Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra (now in the Museum collection).
