We couldn’t celebrate Pride & Prejudice Day without Mr Darcy… For this lockdown project we asked 17 actors read Mr Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth, after his first unfortunate proposal – exploring the universality of Jane Austen’s iconic character.

On the day of publication, Jane and her mother read the first book of Pride & Prejudice aloud in the Drawing Room. Here, Collections and Interpretation manager Sophie Reynolds shares an extract from the same spot.
