Jane Austen Regency Week returns!

In less than a month, the Jane Austen Regency Week festival returns to Hampshire and we have a busy line-up of talks, tours and workshops to keep you entertained!

Dust off those bonnets! After a two year break, we’re delighted that Jane Austen Regency Week will be returning to Alton and Chawton in June! In order to make the week extra special after such a long absence, we’ve put together a bumper programme of  events to make it a truly unforgettable week! The full programme is now available on our Events page – and a few of our favourites are below!

👒 Please note: whilst Regency dress is always encouraged, it is by no means essential!

📅 Jane Austen Regency Week runs from 18 – 26 June

GIN AUSTEN: An Evening at Jane Austen’s House

For one night only, join us for a journey into the past… Learn about the food and drink that would have been cooked and consumed by the Austen women, view Martha Lloyd’s Household Book up close, enjoy cocktails in the garden and bask in the melodious sound of the harp as it drifts out across the summer evening.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE TOUR

Jane Austen's Bedroom

Walking in Jane Austen’s footsteps, you’ll discover the rooms where Pride & Prejudice was revised and edited, and where Jane Austen read the novel aloud to a neighbour on the very day she received her first copy. Moving from room to room, you’ll see portraits of people Jane knew who may have inspired characters in the novel, and objects that help the story come to life.  This tour is naturally followed by tea and biscuits.

EMMA TOUR

Discover the rooms where Emma was written and take a look at our First Edition of Emma up close. Hear the story of the novel’s publication, Jane Austen’s dedication to the Prince Regent, and her correspondence with the Royal librarian. Followed by strawberries and cream (and tea!) on the lawn.

WAKING UP THE HOUSE

In this exclusive, early-morning tour, we’ll be unlocking doors, opening shutters and letting sunshine into the darkened rooms. We’ll take a peep into the attic, dust away cobwebs, and check that everything is in order to start the day. Along the way, we’ll share secrets and stories of this extraordinary house through the ages. After the tour, you’ll enjoy a light breakfast of tea and toast – just as Jane used to do!
