‘…we four sweet Brothers & Sisters dine today at the Gt House. Is not that quite natural?’

Jane writing to Caroline Austen, ?2 March 1815

Jane Austen had a large, clever, affectionate family. From her dear sister Cassandra to her six brothers, numerous uncles and aunts, and in time over thirty nephews and nieces, there were plenty of relatives around to inspire her, get on her nerves, swap stories with, gossip about, write to and visit.

Join us in the Family Room of Jane Austen’s House for a unique, intimate ‘salon’ in which we will get to know Jane Austen’s family intimately! Beginning with their portraits, we will build up a picture of the family, share our favourite stories about family members and examine where they aided or inspired Jane in her writing.
