Details in the craftsmanship of each pen seamlessly reflect aspects of Jane Austen’s life and writing.
Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen â Limited Edition 1813Â
The 1813 pen, a limited edition of 1813 representing the year that Pride and Prejudice was published, is dedicated to Jane Austen’s House here in Chawton, Hampshire. Jane Austen lived here for the last eight years of her life and wrote, revised and had published all six of her beloved novels from this House, including Pride and Prejudice!
The wooden barrel and Mother-of-pearl cap-top of this pen finds its inspiration from the 1813 Clementi Square piano in the Drawing Room, the very room where Jane Austen read Pride and Prejudice aloud to a neighbour on the day she received her first copy, while the frame and panel pattern on the yellow gold-coated cap is reminiscent of the many fireplaces found within the House. Other delicate features include a silhouette of Austen, her signature, a clip in the shape of a reticule, and fittings evoking the colour of Hampshire’s flag. Â
HOMAGE TO JANE AUSTEN
Drawing inspiration from Jane’s life, the complete collection shares this exceptional attention to detail.
The Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen – Limited Edition captures Austen’s countryside life and her enduring love of nature, featuring a barrel in the style of a classical column from Regency architecture, and an inscription referencing Chapter 43 of Pride and Prejudice, the moment where Elizabeth first sees Pemberley Woods.
The Limited Edition 97 describes her love of travel and mimics some of the various objects associated with travel by horse and coach, such as the cap stitched to replicate a luxurious coach interior.
Finally the Limited Edition 8 replicates the splendour of a Regency era ball, and is a joyful ode to these lively events and feature several references to objects from our collection.
This needle case gifted by Jane Austen to her niece, Louisa Knight, inspired the feather motif on the cap, while the turquoise-coloured lacquer featured throughout references Jane’s own turquoise ring from our collection, coincidentally also the birthstone of December, Austenâs birth month. Inspired by the band of a reticule, the clip has been set with a baguette-cut citrine, reminiscent of the golden-coloured Topaz cross pendants belonging to Jane and her sister Cassandra.
The Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen is available from July 2024 from Montblanc boutiques and online. For more information, click here.
