Visit 2½ Centuries of Jane Austen, a brand-new pop-up display touring Hampshire libraries throughout 2025!We’re delighted to share our latest display in collaboration with Hampshire libraries in honour of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday in 2025. Throughout the year you will be able to view this fabulous mini-exhibition in local libraries in Jane Austen’s home county of Hampshire.
2½ Centuries of Jane Austen charts the extraordinary history and impact of Jane Austen’s novels over the last 250 years – from Jane’s birth in 1775 right up to the present day. It is part of the worldwide celebrations of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday this year, the heart of which are taking place at her home here at Jane Austen’s House in Chawton, Hampshire, where she lived for the last eight years of her life. Join us for brand new exhibitions, special events, collaborations and more!
This vibrant and enjoyable display was created by the team here at Jane Austen’s House. It was written by our head of Collections, Interpretation and Engagement, Sophie Reynolds and designed by illustrator Lena Gibert.
It covers themes from Jane Austen’s own inspirations to important illustrations and adaptations of her works, authors that have been inspired by her, film and TV adaptations, and Jane Austen’s Hampshire and showcases objects from the Jane Austen’s House collection, including first editions of Jane Austen’s novels and illustrations from later editions.
