Join sewing historian Dr Serena Dyer as she stitches a new gown. Home sewing was common practice in 18th century Britain, and the Austen women were experienced needlewomen. Using sewing methods gleaned from the examination of garments from the 18th and 19th centuries, and wearing other recreated garments from the period, Serena recreates the dressmaking techniques and practices that clothed Austen and her family.
