Would you like to illustrate the outfit youâre wearing to Dress Up Day? Or perhaps you fancy designing something extra special for a Jane Austen character? Maybe youâd like to adapt a dress for Jane Austen herself, with huge pockets for books and secret compartments for pen and ink?
In this fun and friendly workshop, our Festival Artist in Residence Niki Groom will take you through the basics of design, a brief overview of fashion in the early 1800s and then weâll get to work sketching designs and illustrating our final outfit. Weâll be using templates (size inclusive) to trace from, so beginners are welcome.
Weâll create with pro marker pens and fineliners on A4 paper on the day, but if you have sketchbooks of ideas and art materials youâd like to bring along then please do.
Along the way, enjoy tea and biscuits to fuel your creativity!
About the tutor:
The workshop will be led by our Festival Artist in Residence Niki Groom (AKA @miss_magpie_spy) an award winning fashion, beauty, lifestyle & live event illustrator, with over 24 years in the creative industries. Niki has been commissioned by many international brands, creating artwork for advertising campaigns, window displays, in-store graphics, live events, backdrops, editorial and social media for names such as Clinique, Molton Brown, The Doyle Collection, Barnardos Charity, Ascot. Before entering the world of illustration full time she was a fashion designer for 15 years, and the knowledge that she built up during this period informs her work.
