Join fine artist Stephanie Smart for a fascinating talk about the creation of The Regency Wardrobe, on display throughout Jane Austen’s House from 9 September to 16 November 2025.

Stephanie will introduce the exhibition and discuss how each piece was designed and created – it’s inspiration, period and place, history and story. She will explain how she developed her use of paper as a medium for garment construction, with embroidered and applied decoration, and how her latest collection variously reinterprets the Regency era. By working closely with volunteers from The Regency Town House Heritage Centre, Hove, Stephanie has created a collection that’s broader in scope in terms of its relationship to a particular area, and historical era, than any she has worked on previously.
