Jane Austen’s House presents an exclusive and captivating talk by acclaimed Austen scholar Professor Jennie Batchelor: ‘How do you like my trimming ’ Accessories, Making and Jane Austen’s Novels

Shot in the beautiful and intimate surroundings of the Drawing Room at Jane Austen’s House, where Jane herself read aloud from her first published copy of Pride and Prejudice in 1813, Jennie presents a fascinating talk examining the needlework Jane Austen practiced here at home and the important role that stitched items and embroidered accessories play in her novels, drawing on stitched objects in the museum collection.

Jennie Batchelor is Head of Department and Professor of Eighteenth-Century and Romantic Studies at the University of York, and Patron of the Kent branch of the Jane Austen Society. She has written and edited several books on women’s writing, eighteenth-century dress and early women’s magazines, including the perennial favourite Jane Austen Embroidery.
