New Reimagine Resident: Laboni Islam

We're excited to launch our eighth Reimagine Resident! Poet Laboni Islam will be writing about the history of Jane Austen's muslin shawl.

Laboni Islam was born in Canada to Bangladeshi parents. She is the author of the poetry chapbooks Light YearsĀ (Baseline Press, 2022) andĀ Trimming the WickĀ (ignitionpress, 2023). Project: Laboni is curious about the muslin shawl, believed to have been worked by Jane Austen.Ā  Through research and poetry, she will trace one possible history of the shawl, from a plant growing along the banks of a river in Bengal to Jane’s world.

Laboni’s poems will be displayed in the House alongside the shawl and will be available to read online.

*Update* February 2024: Laboni’s beautiful poem sequence is now available to read at the House or online. Find out more!
