Jane Austen writing to her sister Cassandra, Sunday 6 March 1814
We are delighted to have joined forces with embroidery expert and Royal School of Needlework tutor Chrissie Juno Mann for an exclusive collaboration.
FULL DAY WORKSHOP
In this live, online event, Chrissie will lead a relaxing and inspiring session of hand embroidery. Under her expert tuition you will create a pair of Regency-inspired buttons featuring a beautiful Bullion Knot Rose design, influenced by our own Chawton Cottage Rose – a specially created rose variety with pearly pink petals around a ruby centre.
Over the course of the full day workshop you will learn how to create these pretty Bullion Knot Roses along with other embroidery stitches such as Trellis Stitch, Detached Chain Stitch and French Knots. By the end of the day you will have created a charming memento of Jane Austen’s House and will have the skills to create more in your own time!
Alongside Chrissie’s expert tuition, the workshop will include an exclusive live session with an expert from Jane Austen’s House, introducing you to items from the collection and sharing the treasures and beauties of the House with you, as well as a live discussion on Jane Austen and needlework. There will be plenty of time for questions and chat, over a (virtual) cup of tea!
In advance of the event you will receive an exclusive embroidery kit, created by Chrissie Juno Mann in collaboration with Jane Austen’s House, providing everything you need for the workshop. It will also contain a detailed instruction booklet that will allow you to create more buttons in the future, and some extra treats from Jane Austen’s House for you to enjoy!
Time: 10am – 4pm (GMT)
Duration: 6 hours (full day workshop)
Price: £130 (includes exclusive embroidery kit)
