Willow Workshop: Garden Obelisks

Join us for a fun and practical willow workshop! Using traditional techniques, we’ll craft two natural willow obelisks for the garden that you can take home for pots and climbing plants.

Saturday 30 July
9:30am — 5:00pm

We are delighted to be working with local willow sculptor Jacqueline Rolls to deliver this exciting workshop. As part of a small group, you will be guided through the techniques needed to create a natural willow obelisk from willow grown on the Somerset levels.

We will be creating two items for the garden: a small obelisk which is ideal for a medium sized pot and a large version that will be great for your climbing plants in the garden.

These willow obelisks will be a lovely addition to your garden and home, or the perfect treat for a green-fingered friend!

All materials and tools will be provided. As part of the day you’ll also enjoy a private guided tour of Jane Austen’s House, and learn about the Austen family’s rural life.

Willow work can be tiring so we’ll also keep you going throughout the day with endless cups of tea, plenty of cake and a delicious lunch.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

About the tutor: Jacqueline Rolls

Jacquie is a willow sculptor and artist based in Hampshire. She works with a variety of media which over time has taken her in different directions, however in recent years her passion for experimenting and weaving with natural and found materials  has been her main focus and her time is divided between working on her own projects and working as a willow sculptor.

In August 2021 Jacqueline was awarded a “Developing your creative practise grant” from  Arts Council England, allowing her to take time  out form her every day practise to experiment and explore  new ways of working, and allowed her to undertake an art residency at Tudor House Museum in Southampton.
