āAs a house, Barton Cottage, though small, was comfortable and compact; but as a cottage it was defective, for the building was regular, the roof was tiled, the window shutters were not painted green, nor were the walls covered with honeysuckles.ā
Sense and Sensibility
Step back in time and enjoy a magical evening tour of Jane Austen’s House, with a special Sense and Sensibility twist!
This unique, candlelit tour of the House will be led by an expert guide. After hours, and as part of a small group, you’ll discover Jane Austenās story and that of her first published novel, Sense and Sensibility, using the House itself and objects from the collection to set the scene.
Following in Janeās footsteps, youāll discover the rooms whereĀ S&S was revised and edited, soon after Jane moved to Chawton in 1809.
Moving from room to room, youāll discover how the House itself can help us understand the novel better, and objects in the collection that help the story come to life.
We’ll finish with a glass of wine and the chance to raise a toast to our favourite authoress!
