This special artwork will bring together poems that Jane Austen and her family knew and loved, along with poems that they wrote, and contemporary poems inspired by Jane’s life, works and legacy.
In Reverend Austen’s bureau bookcase, a specially-created artwork will illustrate a range of poetry books and specific poems that we know Jane loved, either because they are mentioned in her letters, or because she references them in her novels. The Poetry Bookcase has been curated by award-winning poet Maura Dooley, with artwork by Jessica Halmshaw.
The poetry theme continues around the House with poems by the Austen family and a range of contemporary poets for you to discover, and a House Tour in Rhyme for children and families to enjoy!
