Join us for a double treat!  This exclusive virtual event will be part book launch / part private view, led by award-winning scholar Janine Barchas and best-selling graphic novelist Isabel Greenberg.

As the curator of our new mini-exhibition The Artworks of Cassandra, Janine Barchas is the perfect person to introduce Cassandra’s artworks – including previously-unseen examples of her copywork, along with some of her lesser-known family portraits. Janine will take us behind the scenes of the exhibition, sharing stories of the artworks and her own tales of tracking down them down and uncovering the original prints that they were based on. She will reveal Cassandra’s unusual artistic habits, her artistic legacy, how her artworks were regarded by the Austen family and how we should consider them today.

Moving from exhibition tour to celebratory book launch, Isabel will introduce the pair’s brand new graphic biography of Jane Austen, focusing on the relationship between the Austen sisters: The Novel Life of Jane Austen. This transatlantic collaboration between Janine in Austin, Texas and Isabel in London has resulted in a book that has been lauded as “Truly delightful, charming, and funny” and we can’t wait to get our hands on it!

Together, Janine and Isabel will also walk us through the creative process behind their ecstatically-drawn and painstakingly-researched graphic biography, sharing their favourite scenes and moments from the book and celebrating its publication!
