The Collection

Jane Austen’s House holds a unique and important collection of objects related to Jane Austen, her life, works and family which can be viewed by researchers. You can view some of the highlights of our collection here.Ā 

We welcome researchers and will always do our best to help you access our collections, or answer questions. We can also provide images for use in publications and talks.

Please contact us in the first instance to discuss the details of your visit or enquiry. If your research requires you to have access to our reserve collection or archive you may be required to submit a reference from an academic supervisor or similar.

Reference Library

We also hold an extensive reference library of books about Jane Austen’s life and works. This is open to all museum visitors to read whilst onsite.

The Reference Library is housed in the Learning Centre, which is sometimes closed for events or school visits. If you plan to use the Reference Library on your visit, please contact us in advance to make sure that it will be accessible. Please also contact us if you wish to check on the availability of a specific title.
