“Time for a Letter”
Jane Austen loved reading Samuel Richardson’s letter-based, or epistolary, novels of romance but that didn’t stop her satirising the format in ‘Amelia Webster’. In this extremely economic sequence of incredibly short letters, Austen’s writers lack paper, words and substance. Nevertheless, no less than three weddings result.
Bartel Jespers and Leopold Benedict riff on the playful intersection of writing, technology and romance, in this short ‘infomercial’ attempting to sell letter-writing to modern lovers.
